Module 4: Roadmap to Employment For Autistic People

Description

About the Module

“The question of work — or making a living — is at the heart of so many struggles for neurodivergent folks. We think differently and process differently, so we work differently. It’s a challenge to time our abilities with a clock when overwhelm or underwhelm, boredom or overexcitement are rotating realities.” – Nerenberg, J. Divergent Mind (2021).

Finding a job can be difficult for everyone, but it can pose even more challenges to you as an autistic person. In this module, we offer a roadmap to meaningful employment – a set of steps you can take when looking for a job.

What inclusive employment looks like?

  • Job satisfaction: Finding a job that aligns with your interests and strengths.
  • Utilising strengths: Engaging in work that allows you to apply your skills like attention to detail and deep focus.
  • Stable employment: Having a full-time or part-time role that is fulfilling and provides financial stability.
  • Inclusive employer: Being employed by companies that have inclusive hiring processes and value diversity.
